Hello everyone. I have been doing research about the Moringa Tree of Life and it is simply amazing. I recently heard about it from a friend whom distributes the product thru a company that has formulated all natural products from the Moringa Tree. I'm hearing nothing but good reviews about it. The website is http://jnix.myzija.com. Has anyone heard anything about this company and if so, any further info would be greatly appreciated. It's just seems logical to buy directly from them instead of trying to grow it myself.

Hi to all,

I am very interested in knowing roughly how much a Moringa tree absorbs CO2 yearly. Seems like there have not been a research on this and I am sure it will be helpful for those who are advocating the planting of Moringa. Any data or studies on this subject should convince people to start planting Moringa.
Any idea or info on this?

Thanks

I am Hephzibah Ene Anderson, founder and owner of Moringa Mama.
We have been able to work with an orphanage in Haiti producing
Moringa Leaf Powder to feed and supplement the diet of 40 orphans in
Haiti in the orphanage we work with at Wayom Timoun-Kingdom for
Kids Orphanage in Port au Prince. We saw a tremendous effect of this
Miracle tree. We set up a farm started with 3000 Moringa seeds and
cuttings, which some are growing. The people have been utilizing the
leaves consuming it both as foods and as tea consistently and this has
changed their lives and health status. The children are healthier and
stronger, their immune system was boost up and so were able to
withstand the devastation of the earthquake health-wise.

We have seen great result especially the positive health effect during
the earthquake season in Haiti. Now we are planning the same project
in Uganda and Kenya.

Presently, Moringa Mama is based in Hawaii where Moringa is growing
unceasingly and where there are massive acres of Moringa Plantations
being cultivated by individuals and as family businesses.
We have fresh Moringa leaf powder and flakes available anytime and
the seeds to sell. Please visit our website at www.moringamama.com.
You can see our Moringa project in Haiti at
www.globalpassionmission.org.

We also introduced and worked in collaboration with Dr. Helen
Asemota and the University of the West Indies Biotech Dept, Faculty
of Science in Jamaica, set up a Moringa Nursery with the first hundred
seeds planted, to formulate Moringa and combine it with yellow yam.
This initial project produced Moringa-Yam tablets and candies which
was
distributed to little children in the community by the graduate students
who are assigned to this project.

Moringa grows healthily in Jamaica. You can find Moringa life fence
over 20 trees lined the edges and cut down to waste at Bustamante
Children Hospital Kingston Jamaica, yet many children there are so
undernourished and sick of malnutrition. There are some also at Mico
College. There are lots of Moringa trees along the May Pen road.

I discovered this on my trip to Jamaica for a Moringa Seminar
Presentation at UWI, Mona, Kingston.

Moringa is a life saver and increase awareness of its numerous
nutritional values should be stresses not just for malnutrition but for
other systemic ailments which have been identified through scientific
research.

While we are searching for health therapy and cure, we can utilize
Moringa as preventive measure for some deadly diseases that is
plaguing many lives. More over, Moringa has no side effects or any
reaction or overdose.

Moringa has been given to us by Mother nature and God has placed it
around us and made it easy to cultivate in areas it can grow where
poor people can have access to and use it.

I will love to help any organization that is interested in doing Moringa
projects in a higher level.

I was trained at ECHO (Economic Concern for Hunger Organization) in
North Fort Myers, Florida and have been studying Moringa through
books by Lowell Fuglie and Dr. Martin Price within the past three years
and have done my personal research and projects and understand how
Moringa program can benefits organizations and communities to be
self sustainable and healthy at the same time.

Moringa is worth pursuing and many humanitarian Organizations and
promoting it.

Subject: The Ugly Face of Malnutrition

The world is under the heavy yoke of malnutrition and in the developing world, the statistics are grim. Ghana, Africa, and invariably the entire world are reeling under the throes of malnutrition which is having a devastating toll on the citizenry and affects productivity with high infant and maternal mortalities. Over 230 million (39%) children under five are chronically malnourished with 54% of deaths among children under 5 years linked to malnutrition. This grave situation led us to establish Moringa Oleifera Farms and Industries Limited (MOFIL) in 2008 as a hybrid for-profit company to develop produce and market high quality, nutritious, natural and organic brand of Moringa oleifera fortified products to solve this problem. Our hope lies in this plant whose leaves have been found capable of wiping every aspect of malnutrition out of the world not to talk of the many benefits derived from other parts of it, namely: the seeds, flowers, roots and bark. Our vision is Ghana Without Malnutrition and ultimately, the World Without Malnutrition. To galvanise support for this work, we entered the Changemaker’s competition: Improved Nutrition; Solutions through Innovation which is in partnership with GAIN in 2009. By emerging as finalist, we seek further support for the online community to vote for us to be among the top three spots which will bring us the needed media publicity and financial clout we require for our work. Please help us rally support for our work. Vote for us. You can use the following steps: 1. Log on to Changemakers website: www.changemakers.com Press sign in and create an account if you are new to the site and/or log in. It will take a few minutes. 2. Click on Competitions and select – The Improved Nutrition: Solutions through Innovation competition a. Take a look at our entry (The Green Journey – Moringa Oleifera Farms and Industries Limited) among the 13 finalists listed and tick it. b. Select two other entries by ticking for them. Click the submit button. c. You have voted for us and increased our chance to get the media and other support to establish our project on a sustainable basis. 3. Spread the word to your colleagues and friends through your emails, blogs, or websites. Take time to read our entry later and request for updates if necessary. The voting started on January 25, 2010 and will end on February 8, 2010. Do well to vote. This contest can give our work a great boost. Thank you very much for your help! We will give further updates in this forum shortly. We will post further details of our work with moringa to let people know of the amazing plant we have to solve malnutrition in an organic and natural way.

Recently, I just articles on Moringa. If the Moringa is full of minerals and vitamin, why don't the UN organization such as WFP and UNICEF use them in their feeding programs around the world? I am sure not only it will save millions of dollars but also will benefit the people. Can anyone tell me the reason? If the information on Moringa is correct, I dont see the reason why the UN organization should not use it for their malnutrition projects.
Something is wrong.

Sir (for all)
We are from India, where lot of moringa is available but still general public is still not aware of all the facts regarding overall benefits of this sustainable tree especially in North India region. People and government is still tangling to solve malnutrition problem. We planted moringa in 17 hectare of own land, of good quality seed of PKM1 verity. plants are growing very well and in about 10 months time we will be in position to sell this very good verity seeds and after 3 months time able to sell organic and hygienically processed leaf powder. We want that this tree serve the poor world wide as rich people have another option of getting nutritious diet so we request moringa growers world wide that they sell this product in cheaper rates that affordable to the poor and needy people. So we are interested in getting rate quotations from purchaser from world over of seeds and leaf powder that gives us small reasonable margin and after adding small margin they supply it to the needy people in affordable rates, as we have seen rates from existing sellers are very high and they are again making product of moring that cant be affordable to general public. So it is our duty to present the product in very cheep rates for the cause of humanity not for high profit.
Thanking you

Dear all
I came to know about Moringa Oleifera only three weeks ago, and I have been informed that Moringa trees have been used to combat malnutrition, especially among infants and nursing mothers. I looked in the internet and found a large number of reports on the nutritional qualities of Moringa which exist in both the scientific and the popular literature. I found that Moringa leaves contain more Vitamin A than carrots, more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach, more Vitamin C than oranges, and more potassium than bananas, and that the protein quality of Moringa leaves rivals that of milk and eggs, and here cam my interest in the tree.
I am a Sudanese from the region of Darfur, which marred with conflicts and war for the last six years, and where malnutrition among children has increased over the past year, despite massive humanitarian aid efforts. UN studies show that of the children affected by ongoing clashes, 16.1% suffer from acute malnutrition. Every year, $1 billion in aid is sent to Darfur, along with 13,000 aid workers from the United Nations and humanitarian agencies, providing food and medical help for some 2.5 million people driven from their homes.
The Moringa trees could save these children if a large plantation project was established and trees were distributed free to farmers and refugees to plant. If a good project was carried out this tree could eradicate hunger, malnutrition and poverty from Darfur.
I have about 30 hectares of land in Nyala the largest city in Darfur, I have four wells for water and diesel engine driven pumps. I used to plant vegetables and sell them to the local market, but since I came to know Moringa I decided to dedicate what is left of my life (52 years) to plant and distribute this tree to my people of Darfur. My plan is to plant seed trees and develop nurseries to distribute millions of trees free of charge.
When the people plant enough trees and come to know about their benefits, then health, nutritional, and financial reworded can be gained.
Please support me with any means possible to make this project a reality; with your know how, books, recent papers, companies and organizations who can support physically and financially, NGO,s who would support with establishment of the plantation and providing seeds, or any helpful information.
With my best regards

Subject: Other Plants and Methods: Application and Expansion of Knowledge for Greater Benefit

While moringa oleifera is a doubtlessly precious plant, it must be remembered that in true forests many plants grow for many uses- not just one. The most successful systems are very diverse ones. I do not know how many of you have already been acquainted with the concept of Permaculture. To summarize it, Permaculture is a system of design for the conservation and optimization of resources. Geoff Lawton and Bill Mollison and their students have taught the system around the world to great success, creating self-sustaining gardens in the deserts of Africa and teaching the local people to teach each other and themselves, cooperating with neighboring villages and sharing knowledge. Community centers are created where people can meet regularly to exchange information, and after years in place the systems continue working. They teach men to fish so that they may feed themselves, as well as teaching them to teach others, basically. If there is any system that can evolve into a worldwide solution by bringing knowledge to people, it is this.

I ask you all to learn more by visiting the following websites. One is a youtube playlist of videos, I recommend "Permaculture In Action- Greening the Desert" and "The Permaculture Concept - Part One" (further down the list) most of all. The video "Permaculture in Miami" is a great example of urban improvement as well, and I recommend the entire playlist. I promise you will not regret watching them. The other website is Plants for a Future, which is a huge and highly functional database of useful plants, including a rating system of usefulness, searchable by climate, medicinal, agricultural, and nutritional purposes as well as others. If that database was made available to everyone and people knew how to use it (which Permaculture surely endows), our commons goals would be much closer to being met. Here are the url's.

Subject: on Revelations 22

I have come accross an article of Dr. Kweku Andoh, a world famous ethno botanist from Ghana West Africa who was commissioned by the National Council of Churches to spearhead a moringa project in Senegal. he said that he believes that this moringa is the one being referred to in the Holy Bible in book of Revelations 22:1,2,3. Anyone there to confirm this? some theologians believe that this tree of life mentioned in the said verse in the bible refers to a tree of life in the heavenly Paradise of God. Holy Bible, Revelations 22:1-2-3, there is a promise of this Savior, to wit: "And he showed me a pure river of water of life. . . In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there a Tree o Life which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations... And there shall be no more curse." can anyone comment on this? thanks and God Bless! I'd like to think that there is indeed paradise here on earth although not as quite perfect as up there in the Heavens. I tried to email the national council of churches but no response up to now from them nor from Dr. Andoh. sandy malunggay republik

Hello, I'm very interested in the Moringa trees & seeds. Im very pleased having found this. I'm not into scientific research about Moringa but I am currently writing a book about healing plants, trees and herbs and its healing wonders and this has helped me gather information. I am a health advocate as well, and Moringa can definitely help the underpriviledged to get all the nutrition they need without worrying about its cost. How do I get started with this project?

Hello from Mexico to all of you.
My research has reached a point where I can tell you that moringa is good for all of the above and additionally for making Diesel (green diesel).
Moringa biomass is great. You can plant one million or two million plants per hectare. Harvesting can be done up to 8 eight times per year. If you only plant 500,000 moringa plants(recommended density) and you get just one kilo per plant, you are looking at 4000 tonnes per year per hectare. (Green stuff)
From green to dry matter you should allow for a reduction in weight up to 83 %. Still, you´ll be getting some 680 tonnes per year, per hectare dry matter.
A Gasification Plant using 40 dry tonnes per day (roughly the yield of 20 hectares), using a gasifier will convert that biomass into synthetic gas (syngas) which after scrubbing and cooling can be converted into green diesel with much better properties than fossil diesel. This is not biodiesel which is obtained through transesterification. It will have no sulphur and achieve a cetane of 70 versus only 49 for fossil diesel, making it far better in efficiency.
Yield will be over 5 million liters per year.

In top of that you could even produce electricity. And 35 million kwh per year. Sounds incredible doesn´t it ?

Well, that is my project and I should be starting before the year is over. Of course ethanol could also be produced, but I have not determined yields or anything.
Regards

Hello all,
I am working on developing Moringa plantations in partnership with indigenous farmers. Our goal is to use the energy market and concern over global warming to reduce poverty and hunger while producing biofuels. Moringa is our crop of choice because we can produce fod and fuel together. There is a lot of information floating around about yields of seed pods and leaves but I have been unable to find data which substantiates significant yield claims for either biomass or oil. We need this data to attract institutional funds to our projects. Can anyone help me?

Hi Mark, Our organization, Moringa Oleifera Farms and Industries Limited, has already put down 640 acres of moringa plantation in Ghana with an out-grower land size of 400 acres. We are deeply in food fortification to combat malnutrition and the production of biofuels (ethanol and moringa oil) and biogas. We will see which data we can make available to you based on a full year’s intensive cultivation of the moringa tree. In the same vein, we will be pleased if you can include us in your program for funding as you will definitely be pleased with our progress and our future growth to reach most parts of Ghana and Africa. Hi Melly, Moringa is antiosteoporotic. You can go to Dr Duke's Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical Database to find out more about it. I have my Moringa story that I would like to share with you. We in Zija are on a mission to spread the miracle of Moringa around the world. Please check my website www.ZijaTheMoringaCompany.com

Joseph,

Will drinking moring tea be as beneficial as ingesting the leaves?

Thanks.

Subject: Open Forum

Hi Melly, I have talked about this in another place in this forum but may need to repeat it in case you do not find it easily. When you use moringa as tea, only some soluble nutrients are made available to your body. The rest of the remaining nutrients are entrapped in the material to be discarded which is equally essential for the upkeep of your body. What we normally do here when we use the dried leaves is to boil the leaves, drain the water and use it as tea and then use the leaves to prepare our sauce, thereby deriving the maximum benefit from the whole process.

Thank you. Will certainly try to find a way of eating the leaves. I used to enjoy the tea. I tried incoporating it in my soup and it made my soup bitter. Will have to find a better recipe then.

Hi Melly, I'm not sure if drinking tea is as beneficial as eating the leaves but i know by experience that Moringa leaves are not easily digested by our body's digestion mechanism. This means that some nutrients are not absorbed. If the product is a pharmaceutical grade and formulated to be 100% bioavailable and 100% cell-ready, then there is no absorption issue. Zija products are 100% absorbed in the bloodstream in 20 minutes when taken on an empty stomach. Also Kosher and Halal certified. Check my website: www.ZijaTheMoringaCompany.com

Hi Tyron,

Good day!

Would appreciate if you could give me your site (if any) to visit so I could view the products and prices of fruit juices I intend to sell to our students here in our school located at Rizal, Philippines. This could be the best alternative for carbonated drinks sold at the students' canteen.

Thanks you very much.

Poloko,

Virgin coconut oil (vco) is very good for HIV/AIDS. Perhaps you can mix the vco or coconut milk with the moringa leaves and prepare it as a local dish. This would make you give the patients stronger natural medicine.
You can google virgin coconut oil + HIV or AIDS.

Processing Moringa leaves into powder seems easy and a lot of people are engaging in it without regard to proper quality control and commercial production. Moringa Oleifera Farms and Industries Limited, in association with Christian Volunteer Service International, is paving the way for Moringa products that possess the requisite and desired qualities and produced under strict hygienic and appropriate technological conditions. Our Moringa leaf powder is soluble in hot or cold water with a greater part of nutrients well preserved unlike others produced generally. We can supply any order in bulk or retail quantities.

Hi Poloko, Our NGO assisted in forming a hybrid company called Moringa Oleifera Farms and Industries Limited and we process Moringa leaf powder from organic sources in the Kwahu North District (Afram Plains) in Ghana, a peninsula sandwiched between the two arms of the Volta Lake. We have 50g and 100g retail packs on the local market. For export orders, we have 1 kilo to 50 kilo bulk packs for repackaging or use in food or pharmaceutical industries although we can equally supply retail packs on the export market. By the middle of the year, we will be packing tea bags of 1g size. We have a moringa plantation of over 640 acres and an out-grower land size of more than 400 acres in some surrounding districts. Our products are certified by the Mampong Center for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine and the Food and Drugs Board in Ghana. Our website is: www.moringaindustries.com. Unfortunately, it is still under construction and will be fully operational in a short while. Our e-mail address is: mofilproducts@yahoo.com or info@moringaindustries.com. A brochure about the company is being sent to your e-mail address. Thank you.

I wish to find out if moringa's amino acids are also lost in cooking.

Also, are there any health benefits derived from moringa tea? Should it be boiled or steeped.

Thanks.

Melly

[ Reply to This ]

Subject: Open Forum

Melly, Moringa’s amino acids are not lost during cooking. The soluble nutrients in moringa leaves are made available in moringa tea with the effects being felt quickly than any other means. When moringa leaves are shade dried solely, they tend to float on water and powder or tea from such is best boiled to release the soluble nutrients. But if the leaves are vacuum dried at low temperatures, the tea produced from such easily release available nutrients when steeped in hot or cold water.

Jess,

Let no aluminum or tin or lead touch your product.
They are all hazardous to health. If teas are wrapped in tiny paper bags separately from tea bags, then packed in aluminum then that is fine.

I am looking for individuals who is interested in spreading the news about moringa. I am looking for dedication, with a strong passion to educate others. I need strong leaders behind me, I will give you all the help and education you will need. You can make money sharing this. The combination of the moringa, and pomegranate, and Aloe Vera, makes this a very strong and healthy juice. If you already know about the health benefits moringa alone can offer, than you will know that this combination is very powerful. Please contact me if you are serious about sharing, and you have a strong passion and desire to see malnutrition completely wiped out of the world. There is no reason why this even exists in our world today. Little children are being left to take care of them selves after the loss of one or maybe both parents due to the AIDS virus. In most countries where the percent rate of malnutrition, the moringa tree grows wild and is bountiful. We can change this. But we need to form a strong leadership and share with as people as we can, and never give up on this project, i hope to hear from many of you soon. My email address is julieeelder58@hotmail.com

Hi Pogaplayer, We are very much interested in getting the word about moringa to everyone in Africa to assist in the combat against malnutrition especially among children and pregnant women. This is started in Ghana with the Ghana Malnutrition Annihilation Project (Ghana MAP) which will culminate finally in the Africa MAP. To help us in this resolve, we established a hybrid company made up of not-for-profit and for-profit companies, Moringa Oleifera Farms and Industries Limited, which is spearheading the way. Apart from nutritional supplements from moringa, we have developed other products like organic fertilizer, plant growth hormones, water purification products, non-chemical based soap and other skin cleansing materials, and fortified foods all from moringa. We are equally going into ethanol and biogas production to make use of the excess moringa leaves we produce. We have featured twice on Changemakers.net. Feel free to get into touch with us. Our e-mail address is: mofilproducts@yahoo.com or info@moringaindustries.com
